The Baroque Instrument Course was first offered in 1978 as part of Toho Gakuen’s enthusiastic response to the growing movement in the latter half of the 20th century toward the playing of music using authentic instruments, i.e. those that existed at the time of composition, as well as the style of performance originally employed. Although we recognize the difficulty of producing exactly the same effect on the present-day listener as the music produced on the original audience, we are nonetheless committed to seeking to recreate the authentic sound so as to come as close as possible to that goal.
